Two pensioners ripped off by cowboy builders in Greatfield have been saved by a hero of a tradesman who offered to repair damage and replace substandard work completed at their properties.
The two neighbours, 72 year old David Wright and 80 year old Jessie Goode, had their properties’ fascias and guttering replaced by a bogus company costing them £600 each, however already both properties’ guttering is now falling apart.
The company, while doing the work, even left asbestos dumped in the front garden, which should be disposed of according to health and safety regulations by a registered collector. This usually carries a cost for customers needing disposal of the waste product usually arising from building work in properties as it was used in many installations before the health problems associated with the material were realised.
After the work was carried out on their properties the pair tried to contact the company on the number given to them but the number was disconnected shortly after the work was carried out. A local newspaper published the pair’s devastating experience, and a local roofer, Paul Verwey, got in touch with the paper to offer his services.
He explained that his heart went out to the pair, and that if it was his grandparents affected by the situation, he would be devastated that someone had ripped them off in that manner. Paul offered to complete the repairs to the elderly residents’ homes free of charge.
Mr Wright was told about Pauls kind offer and he has accepted his proposal, saying he couldnt be more grateful.
